The following are proposed changes, that if approved would become effective Sunday, August 24, 2008.

  • The Capitol Transfer Center will permanently close effective at 1:00 AM on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Service will be removed from two bus stops currently located on 11th Street between Congress Avenue and Colorado Street.
  • Passengers will transfer between downtown routes on Congress Avenue at 10th Street.
  • Bus stops will be available on the northwest, northeast, and southeast corners of the Congress Avenue / 10th Street intersection.
    • Southbound routes entering downtown via southbound San Jacinto Blvd will travel westbound on 10th Street and southbound on Congress Avenue (Routes 18, 37, and 137). Passengers wishing to transfer to other downtown routes should exit at the bus stop located on the northeast corner of 10th Street / Congress Avenue.
    • Northbound and westbound routes entering downtown via northbound Brazos Street will continue to travel northbound on Brazos Street, westbound on 10th Street, and northbound on Lavaca Street, or southbound on Colorado Street (Routes 3, 17, 19). Passengers wishing to transfer to other downtown routes should exit at the bus stop located on the northeast corner of 10th Street / Congress Avenue
    • Northbound routes entering downtown via northbound Congress Avenue will continue to travel northbound on Congress Avenue (Routes 1, 5, 9, 20, 30, 101, 127, 142, 174, Congress `Dillo, 470). Passengers wishing to transfer to other downtown routes should exit at the bus stop located on the southeast corner of Congress Avenue / 10th Street.
    • Westbound and southbound routes entering downtown via westbound 11th Street will travel westbound on 11th Street and southbound on Congress Avenue (Routes 2, 6, 10, 20, 27, 127, 142, and 174). Passengers wishing to transfer to other downtown routes should exit at the bus stop located on the northwest corner of Congress Avenue / 10th Street.
    • Southbound routes entering downtown via southbound Guadalupe will continue to travel eastbound on 11th Street and southbound on Congress Avenue. Passengers wishing to transfer to other downtown routes should exit at the bus stop located on the northwest corner of Congress Avenue / 10th Street. (Routes 1, 3, 5, 9, 101).
    • Route 171 Oak Hill Flyer and Route 935 Tech Ridge Express would continue current operations along 11th Street, but would no longer serve bus stops on 11th Street between Congress Avenue and Colorado Street.
    Fixed Route Bus System
1LNorth Lamar/ South Congress (via Lamar) Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday Route and Schedule Modification
  • Service is extened south to Southpark Meadows (South Congress/Slaughter Ln).
  • Service is removed from Battle Bend neighborhood
  • Service is removed along Wm Cannon (South Congress Ave to Bluff Springs - South Transfer Center) - to be replaced by Route 201 Southpark Meadows.
    • Southbound from South Congress/ Ben White Blvd (new South Central Transit Center), service travels south on South Congress Ave to Southpark Meadows via east on Slaughter Ln, South on South IH-35 Frontage, west on Turk Ln to Cullen Ln..
    • Northbound - at Southpark Meadows from Turk Ln/Cullen Ln, north on Cullen Ln, east on Slaughter Ln, north on South Congress Ave to regular route.

Service between Ben White Blvd and Tech Ridge Park & Ride would not change. However, minor adjustments to hours of service and frequency would be made as follows:

    Morning (5:00am-7:00pm) - every 24 minutes (currently 22)
    Evening (7:00pm-12:00am) - no change
  • Saturdays - no change

1MNorth Lamar/ South Congress (via Metric) Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday Route and Schedule Modification
  • Service is shortened and ends in South Austin at new South Central Transit Center (South Congress/Ben White Ln).
  • Service is removed from Battle Bend neighborhood
  • Service is removed south of Ben White Blvd to Bluff Springs - South Transfer Center) - section will continue to be served by Route 1L.
    • Southbound from downtown, via South Congress Ave, west on Radam Ln to new South Central Transit Center (South Congress/ Ben White Blvd).
    • Northbound - from new South Central Transit Center (South Congress/ Ben White Blvd), east on Radam Ln, north on South Congress Ave to regular route.
    • Service is removed along Wm Cannon (South Congress Ave to Bluff Springs - South Transfer Center) - alternate service to be available on Route 201 Southpark Meadows or 333 Wm Cannon.

Service between Ben White Blvd and Tech Ridge Park & Ride would not change. However, minor adjustments to hours of service and frequency would be made as follows:

Service will be "unlinked" from Route 18 ML King and operate independently.

  • Route service to extend to Lake Austin Blvd / MoPac (west of Downtown).
    • Westbound - Originating from the East 7th St and Montopolis neighborhood areas, service continues from East 6th St/IH-35 west on 6th St, continue onto Lake Austin Blvd to Veterans Dr / Atlanta St.
    • Eastbound from Veterans Dr / Atlanta St, east on Lake Austin Blvd, continue onto 5th St to Brazos/6th. From Brazos/6th continue east on 7th St to the Montopolis neighborhood area as current.
  • Routing between IH-35 and areas east remains unchanged.
  • Select supplemental trips traveling Westbound in the morning and Eastbound in the afternoon may be scheduled to accommodate SF Austin student loads during the school year.

Hours of Operation and Frequency of Service will remain approximately as current. However, Minor Schedule Adjustments will be made to accommodate new Routing extension.

5Woodrow / South Fifth Weekdays

  • New connector bus route that will provide direct bus connections from the Downtown/Convention Center Station (near the Austin Convention Center) to the Texas State Capitol Complex and to businesses along Congress Avenue.
  • Service will depart the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station traveling north on Trinity Street, then west on 6th Street, north on Congress Avenue, east on 11th Street, and south on Red River Street to return to the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station.

Hours of Operation and Frequency of Service (Approximate)

  • Weekdays - morning and afternoon peak hours consistent with Capital MetroRail Red Line span of service (to be finalized in Fall 2008; anticipated 30-minute intervals).
461Convention Center - Guadalupe/Lavaca Weekdays

New MetroRail Connector Route
(Upon Opening Date of Capital MetroRail in Late Fall 2008)

  • New connector bus route that will provide direct bus connections from the Downtown/Convention Center Station (near the Austin Convention Center) to the Guadalupe and Lavaca corridors in the western portion of downtown Austin.
  • Service will depart the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station traveling north on Trinity Street, then west on 6th Street, north on Lavaca Street, west on 12th Street, south on Guadalupe Street, and east on 5th Street to return to the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station.

  • New connector bus route that will provide direct bus connections from the Downtown/Convention Center Station (near the Austin Convention Center) to the City Hall Complex in the southern portion of downtown Austin and the Riverside corridor south of Lady Bird Lake during weekday morning and afternoon peak hours.
  • Service will depart the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station traveling north on Trinity Street, then east on 5th Street, south on IH 35 frontage, west on Riverside Drive, north on South 1st and Lavaca Streets, and east on 3rd Street to return to the Downtown/Convention Center MetroRail Station.
