How to Ride the ‘Dillo

dillo logo

Capital Metro'Dillos are rubber-tire replicas of the old trolleys that served downtown in the last century. There are two `Dillo routes: one goes east and west through downtown on 5th and 6th Streets. The other goes north and south on Congress. Fifty cents buys you two hours worth of rides on the `Dillo which is perfect for lunch or shopping. Here’s what you need to know to ride.

The Dillo stops wherever you see the little ‘Dillo symbol on signage. The next ‘Dillo will be there in just a few minutes between 7 am and 7 pm weekdays. If you want to ride, signal the driver by raising your hand as the ‘Dillo approaches.

When you board the ‘Dillo there is a farebox where you deposit your fifty cents (there is no change given). A pass will come out, good for two hours worth of rides on the ‘Dillo. You can ride either one of them during this time period. Just swipe it through the farebox the next time you board. These passes are not good for any other Capital Metro bus, but if you purchased a day pass on a Capital Metro bus, or have a 31-Day pass, your pass is valid on the ‘Dillo.

To get off the ‘Dillo, pull the cord by the windows to signal the driver. Then get off using the back door to allow others to board through the front.

There are lots of places to see in Downtown Austin, and the ‘Dillo can get you to most of them.
