Capital Metro Increases Service for SXSW
AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 28, 2017) - Capital Metro will again expand its service to accommodate the tens of thousands of people from around the world coming into Austin to attend the 2017 South by Southwest Interactive, Film and Music Festival (SXSW), March 6-18.
In addition to its regular service, Capital Metro will offer the following extended hours and increased service during SXSW:
MetroRapid Extended Service
During SXSW, MetroRapid will operate until 2:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Hours will also be expanded on Sundays, with service running until 12:30 a.m. All other days, MetroRapid will operate on its regular schedule, until midnight Monday through Thursday. A single ride on MetroRapid costs $1.25.
MetroRail Extended Service
MetroRail service will be extended daily, with Saturday and Sunday service both starting earlier and ending later. On Saturday, service runs from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 a.m., and on Sunday the first train leaves at 10:30 a.m. with service extended until midnight. Capital Metro will provide overflow buses for when the train is too crowded beginning Friday, March 10 through Saturday, March 18. They will operate from 9 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. A single ride on MetroRail costs $3.50.
Ticket vending machines (TVMs) at MetroRail stations do not accept credit or debit cards and require payment by cash, Stored Value Cards or an electronic change card (ECC) previously issued by a TVM.
Night Owl buses will operate until after 3 a.m. at double their normal service capacity every day except Sunday, placing even more buses on the roads during the festival and allowing attendees to focus on having a good time instead of worrying how they'll get home.
MetroAirport Route 100 offers service to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) and downtown every 30 minutes for $1.25. On Sunday, March 19, MetroAirport will run every 15 minutes throughout the day.
