Capital Metro to Offer Safe, Convenient Service on Independence Day
Agency will run Saturday-level service July 4th
AUSTIN, Texas - Capital Metro is encouraging people to take public transit this Independence Day to avoid the hassle and cost of congestion and parking at the Austin Symphony H-E-B July 4th Concert & Fireworks at Vic Mathias Shores.
The agency will operate Saturday-level service for the holiday. MetroRail will begin service at 4 p.m. and will operate until late-night, with the last train leaving Downtown Station at midnight. MetroRapid will run until 12:30 a.m.
For riders returning home after the end of the fireworks show, Capital Metro is advising those going north of Lady Bird Lake to walk across the South 1st Street Bridge, which will be closed to vehicular traffic, and head to bus stops located at Lavaca and 4th Streets. Southbound riders can board their return buses at either of two stops:
- Near the corner of Barton Springs and South Congress for routes traveling down South Congress or east of I-35.
- A temporary staging area along Barton Springs Road between South 1st and Riverside for riders traveling southwest (along South 1st or Lamar, for instance).
Bus detours will be in effect between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. the evening of July 4. Riders can get real-time information by downloading the free CapMetro App, using the Trip Planner, visiting the Capital Metro website or by calling the customer service GO Line at 512-474-1200.
Routes that will be on detour that evening are:
- 1 Congress/Metric
- 3 Burnet/ Manchaca
- 5 Woodrow/ South 5th
- 7 Duval/Dove Springs
- 10 S.1st/Red River
- 20 Manor Road/Riverside
- 30 Barton Creek Square
- 801 N. Lamar/South Congress
- 803 Burnet/South Lamar
On July 4, all MetroAccess subscription trips will be automatically canceled. MetroAccess customers needing to keep their subscription trips on July 4 should call 512-852-7272 to reschedule them.
Capital Metro administrative offices and the Transit Store will be closed July 4; however, the GO Line will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and customers will have access to the automated 24-hour phone line.
Service will return to its regular weekday schedule on Wednesday, July 5.
In addition, Capital Metro is partnering with the city of Lago Vista to provide free park and ride shuttle service at this year's Lago Vista 4th of July Celebration. Capital Metro bus shuttle service will run continuously from Lago Vista High School to the Lago Vista Golf Course beginning at 5 p.m. The shuttle service will be available until one hour after the conclusion of the fireworks show at the golf course.
