*CANCELED* Capital Metro and Central Texas Emergency Services to Participate in Emergency Drill
MEDIA ADVISORY: Due to the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Harvey at the Texas coast and possible heavy rain in our region, we are canceling this Saturday's emergency drill and moving it to Saturday November 4.
Capital Metro and several law enforcement, fire and emergency agencies from the Central Texas region will hold a disaster preparedness drill involving a MetroRail train near Lakeline Station on Saturday Aug. 26th , from 6.30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The goal of the exercise is to enhance multi-agency and multi-disciplinary coordination and practice emergency response. Multiple Central Texas agencies will be participating, including the Austin and Cedar Park fire and police departments and Williamson and Travis County emergency services.
There will be a train staged between Lakeline and Leander Station and the public should be aware of emergency vehicles that may be in the area. The simulation will include volunteers from Capital Metro and supportive emergency services.
Due to limited space and resources, we will not be able to provide media access to the exercise for footage or interviews. However, there will be availability for an interview with the Capital Metro security director on Friday Aug. 25.
For questions or to set up an interview, please contact the Capital Metro media contact listed above.
