Capital Metro Announces Extended Schedule and Free Service on New Year's Eve

AUSTIN, Texas - Capital Metro has announced its service schedule for the New Year's holiday. Each year, the agency invests in free rides and extended service to ensure that people have safe transportation options on what can be one of the most dangerous nights of the year due to impaired driving. 

On New Year's Eve, Sunday, Dec. 31, Capital Metro will offer free rides on MetroBus, MetroRapid, MetroRail and MetroAccess from 6 p.m. until the end of service to help residents and visitors safely ring in the New Year. 

MetroRail service will be extended that evening, with the last downtown train leaving at 2:30 a.m. In addition, MetroRapid will run later hours, with final departures from downtown along Guadalupe and Lavaca at 2:30 a.m. 

Local MetroBus service will operate on a Sunday service schedule New Year's Eve. Night Owls, E-Buses and UT Shuttles will not be in service.  

On New Year's Day, Monday, Jan. 1, Capital Metro will operate MetroBus and MetroRapid on their regular Sunday service schedules. MetroRail, Night Owls, E-Buses and UT Shuttles will not be in service. 

MetroAccess subscription trips scheduled on Jan. 1 will be canceled automatically. Customers needing to keep their subscription trips should call 512-852-7272. The reservation line will be staffed New Year's Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Capital Metro administrative offices and the Transit Store will also be closed Dec. 30, 31 and Jan 1; however, customers will have 24-hour access to the automated Customer Service GO Line at 512-474-1200 and the online Trip Planner

All services, except the UT Shuttle and E-Bus, will resume their regular weekday schedules on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
