CapMetro to Resume Most Regular Service Friday, February 3

Due to multiple crossing outages, CapMetro Rail will be suspended

AUSTIN, TX (February 2, 2023) — CapMetro is planning to return to regular fixed-route service levels for Bus, including Flyer and Express routes, CapMetro Access, MetroBike and Pickup services, on Friday, February 3.  CapMetro Rail will not operate Friday as crews continue their work to restore power to 16 grade crossings and 7 signals, as well as clear debris along the 32-mile commuter rail line.

On Friday, the agency will run the Route 454 bus for customers who would otherwise use CapMetro Rail. This route is deployed to accommodate customers when CapMetro has scheduled commuter service suspensions. It serves the Leander, Lakeline, Howard and Downtown Stations.

CapMetro staff have been working tirelessly to clean-up debris, including fallen trees, at bus stops due to the ice accumulation.  However, it’s possible some stops may still be closed until staff can address the safety concerns. For customers who plan to use CapMetro’s Park and Rides, please be aware that some parking may also be blocked off due to fallen trees and debris.

CapMetro continues to work with its partners at the City of Austin for emergency operations. Last night, the agency helped transport 230 people to cold weather shelters. CapMetro Access has also been able to provide over 60 trips to dialysis clinics on Thursday, February 2.

CapMetro is running about 90% of regular service Thursday, but customers should be prepared for delays due to detours caused by debris, signal outages and other road conditions.

The agency encourages customers to use the Trip Planner to find the most up-to-date information on route detours and stop closures. Customers can also sign up for MetroAlerts or, if they need assistance, call the Customer Service GO line at 512-474-1200.
