Cap Metro Brings On-Demand Service to Manor with Pickup
Service will come to four Austin neighborhoods later this year.
AUSTIN, Texas - CapMetro has launched a ride-hailing bus service in Manor called Pickup that takes customers from their front step to anywhere within the service zone. Customers can request a ride directly from their phone, either through an app or by calling the Pickup Service Center.
The new service was launched on June 3, replacing MetroBus Route 470. It serves the Manor area, including Cap Metro's Manor Park & Ride, Walmart, City Hall and several additional neighborhoods both in and out of the city limits. Pickup will come to Austin later this year and serve the four areas included in the MetroLink pilot program.
Using the Pickup app, customers will be able to hail a ride directly from their smartphone. They'll receive directions to a pickup location within a short walking distance, allowing for quick and efficient shared trips without lengthy detours.
Pickup is available weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Customers can download the app from either the iOS or Android app store, register for an account and book a trip. Those in the Manor service zone without access to the smartphone app may call 512-527-3222. A single ride costs $1.25, the same charge as a Single Ride pass used to take MetroBus and MetroRapid services. A CapMetro Day Pass, 7-Day Pass or 31-Day Pass will cover a Pickup ride as well.
The agency piloted the Pickup service in 2017 and 2018 in Northeast Austin, including the Mueller and Windsor Park neighborhoods. Its app was developed in partnership with the on-demand public mobility developer Via, which operates on-demand ridesharing platforms in New York City, Chicago and Washington, D.C., and licenses its technology to transportation providers globally.
