Choose CapMetro and Keep Moving during South by Southwest

Agency offering special service options to support one of Austin’s largest events

AUSTIN—CapMetro is prepared to accommodate the large influx of people coming to the Central Texas region for South by Southwest, which kicks off March 8 and runs through March 16. The agency provides multiple transit options to help customers and festival-goers travel with ease, including CapMetro Rail, Rapid, Bike, and Night Owls.

CapMetro Rail will run extended service throughout the duration of the festival. The last trains will leave Downtown Station on Fridays and Saturdays (March 8, 9, 15, 16) at approximately 2:30 a.m. The agency will also operate on Sunday, March 10, until approximately 12:30 a.m.

The agency is expecting large crowds on Saturday, March 9 and Saturday, March 16 due to SXSW and the Austin FC matches at Q2 Stadium. The agency will run all available trains and have staff at all stations to provide information. The trains will be packed and the agency is encouraging riders to help squeeze the most out of its resources, which could mean quite literally squeezing in to make room for fellow customers.

CapMetro will offer complimentary fares for Rail customers on Saturday, March 9

The agency is also offering regular service for CapMetro Rapid and Night Owls for the festival. Rapid will run until 12:30 a.m. during the week, midnight on Saturdays and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays. Night Owls will run from midnight to 3 a.m. and customers can board the Night Owl buses at 6th and Congress.

CapMetro Bike will operate 75 bikeshare stations for customers to easily get around downtown. A bike valet is available at 4th and Trinity Street.

The agency is also encouraging people who are traveling to our region through Austin Bergstrom International Airport to take transit! CapMetro Bus Route 20 operates every 15 minutes from the airport directly to Downtown. To board the bus, go to the lower-level and look for the neon guitar bus stop.
