Enjoy the ease and savings of a daily or monthly pass without paying the full cost up-front.

Use the new CapMetro App to pay with AMP! Read our Guides

Pay As You Go! No Passes Needed.

You can pay per ride for Bus or Rail instead of buying a daily or monthly pass. When you've spent the equivalent of a daily or monthly pass using your AMP card, you've met the cap and the rest of your rides are free until the next day or month.

How Can You Use AMP?

You can use AMP through the CapMetro App or a physical card, but it's best to stick with one method, otherwise not all your rides will count towards one fare cap. Each method counts rides separately, so just use one to get the full benefit.

Where can I use AMP?

You can use your AMP card on CapMetro Bus by scanning it at the validator or CapMetro Rail by showing the card to the conductor to have it scanned.

How does the fare cap work?

The cap is automatically calculated on your AMP card so that you never pay more than you should. First, load value (do not buy passes) onto your AMP card. After you have spent the equivalent of the cost of a daily pass in single rides during a service day (4 a.m.- 3:59 a.m.), you've met the daily cap and  ride free the rest of the day. After you've spent the equivalent of the cost of a 31-day pass in single rides, you've met the monthly cap and ride free until the first day of the next month. For reduced fares, you'd need to take 3 rides in 24 hours to spend the $1.25 cap.

What are local and commuter fares?

Local passes are valid on CapMetro Local, Rapid, UT Shuttle Buses and Pickup only. They allow you to connect through the Austin area. Commuter passes are valid on all local services as well as Express and Rail services. They allow you to commute to the Austin area from outside the city. Your AMP card cannot be used on Pickup. View this map of all our services for more information.

Can my fares be capped weekly with AMP?

Unfortunately, a 7 day fare cap is not available when using AMP. It is only applicable to a service day or calendar month.

Can I have both a physical AMP card and use AMP on my phone?

While you're free to use both methods simultaneously, each method would create separate fare caps and balances. Therefore, we suggest picking one preferred  method and only using that way of using AMP to maximize cost savings.

Where can I get the AMP card? What does it cost?

The AMP card is free. Open the CapMetro App and create an AMP card under the "Manage" tab. Pickup a physical AMP card at our Transit Store.

How do I manage my AMP card?

You can manage your card via the CapMetro App or online at this page. You can link your physical AMP card to your AMP account in the CapMetro App in order to add money  to your physical AMP card through your phone. You can use the physical AMP card anonymously. If you create an AMP account, you'll be able to block lost cards  and transfer funds to a new card. You can track your progress toward reaching the fare cap through the app, where you can also view your trip history and manage  any passes. Activated passes cannot be transferred between accounts.

Can I buy passes with AMP?

AMP fare capping only works when you load money onto your virtual AMP card and pay-as-you-ride. You cannot use your AMP balance to buy a pass. In order to achieve capped fares, add value to your AMP card.

However, you may use your digital wallet balance to "Add Passes" to your virtual AMP card if you desire.

Can I delete an AMP account?

Yes. Deleting your virtual AMP account will delete the money and passes on the account. We recommend that you create a new AMP account first and transfer your money balance and passes over before deleting your current account. Removing a physical AMP card from your account will not affect the balance or passes on the card.

How do I load money into my AMP account?

In the app or web portal, you can use a credit or debit card to load money onto an AMP card (minimum $10). You can also choose to autoload your AMP card when it falls below a certain balance. You can reload cash onto your AMP card in-person at  supporting retailersDigital wallet balance cannot be transferred between accounts.

How can I use AMP with my Reduced Fare ID?

Please notify the CapMetro customer care team using this form. You’ll be required to download the new CapMetro app, login to your account, create a virtual AMP card and provide your virtual AMP card number to the customer care team to receive the Reduced Fare discount.

How does fare capping work with Reduced Fares?
