CapMetro, Pflugerville Agree on Transit Development Plan
City joins regional municipalities to take advantage of CapMetro services.
AUSTIN, TEXAS - The Pflugerville City Council this week has approved a transit development plan (TDP), developed in partnership with CapMetro. The TDP lays a path for the implementation of transit service within Pflugerville and connecting to the CapMetro service area.
Through the TDP, Pflugerville is participating in CapMetro's Service Expansion Program. That program provides a process for jurisdictions that are located within the urbanized area but outside the CapMetro service area to access Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds for transit projects. Funding for plan implementation is not included in the TDP. An adopted TDP is required for the use of FTA funds for transit projects outside the service area.
The Pflugerville TDP supports the agency's goals to serve as the region's public transportation provider and to improve travel into, out of and around Central Austin. It also allows the city to ensure connectivity between activity centers within and outside of Pflugerville and to maintain a voice in regional transportation planning and funding cycles. CapMetro will continue to work with city staff to advance the TDP's goals and to outline transit options for Pflugerville.
The agency has worked with other areas in the region to complete transit development plans, including Round Rock, Georgetown, Buda, Hutto and Travis County. Round Rock and Georgetown began to provide transit services in 2017.
