CapMetro and Austin Chamber To Host Virtual Industry Day for Local Businesses

Attendees will learn about economic opportunities from the Project Connect investment

AUSTIN, Texas (February 10, 2021) - This Thursday, CapMetro and the Austin Chamber of Commerce will hold Accelerate: How Transit Projects Create Economic Opportunity for Central Texas. The virtual event will focus on the thousands of jobs supported by transit projects, including the Project Connect investment. Central Texas business owners are encouraged to attend to learn about these procurement opportunities and how to be prepared when CapMetro projects go public.

“With the passage of Project Connect last November, we are preparing to transform Central Texas for generations to come,” said Randy Clarke, CapMetro CEO and President. “During the Accelerate chat, we want to engage with local businesses on all the current and future CapMetro opportunities Project Connect will bring. We are looking forward to creating even more relationships with members of the Central Texas business community.”

Transit programs, like Project Connect, create many prospects for local businesses to get involved. Whether it’s participating in procurement opportunities, having a product or service the transit agency can use or advertising on a bus or at a station, CapMetro provides many different ways to work with businesses.

“We're so pleased to help connect our business community with CapMetro for upcoming procurement opportunities,” said Austin Chamber President and CEO Laura Huffman. “Just as the community at large will benefit from the many planned transit projects, area businesses can also benefit from the funding associated with these projects.”

Present at the live chat on Thursday will be Randy Clarke, CapMetro’s President and CEO, Greg Canally, Austin Transit Partnership’s CFO and Chief Development Officer, and Laura Huffman, Austin Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO. CBS Austin is Accelerate’s media sponsor, and the station’s anchor, Hema Mullur, will act as emcee for the live chat. This group will discuss the type of services typically procured to support public transportation and will also give an overview of the systems of programs that is Project Connect.

Accelerate will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. this Thursday. Please visit CapMetro.org/Accelerate for more information and to register for the virtual event.
