CapMetro Expands the Northeast ATX and Leander Pickup Zones

Service begins for new zones on August 16, 2021

AUSTIN, TX (August 13, 2021) – CapMetro will expand two Pickup service zones — Northeast ATX and Leander — this Monday due to customer demand.

In the Northeast ATX zone, the new pedestrian bridge over US 183, Harris Elementary School and two Foundation Community Apartments — The Jordan at Mueller and Leisure Time Village — will be included in the zone boundary.
In the Leander zone, the Hills at Leander senior apartments and the Southbrook apartments will be included in the zone boundary.

Expanding neighborhood circulators is a key element of the Project Connect program that voters passed in November 2020 and expanding these service zones will give customers more access to the Pickup service.

CapMetro’s Pickup service takes customers to and from anywhere within the local service zone. Customers can request a ride directly from the smartphone app or by calling the Pickup Service Center at 512-369-6200.

Service in the Northeast ATX zone is available weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and service in the Leander Pickup zone is available weekdays between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Beginning on August 21, Saturday service from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be available in both zones. The wheelchair accessible service picks customers up from their location within 15 minutes or less.

Customers can download the Pickup by CapMetro app from their phone’s app store (iOS and Android), register for an account and book a trip. Those in the service zones without access to the smartphone app may call 512-369-6200. A one-way ride costs $1.25 - the same charge as a Single Ride pass used to take MetroBus and MetroRapid services. A CapMetro Day Pass, 7-Day Pass or 31-Day Pass will cover a Pickup ride as well.

Kids ages 18 and younger ride free. Children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

CapMetro piloted the Pickup service in 2017 and 2018 in Northeast Austin, including the Mueller and Windsor Park neighborhoods. In June 2019, the agency launched service in Manor after which additional zones in Austin and Leander were added. The Pickup service app was developed in partnership with Via which operates on-demand ridesharing networks in New York City, Chicago and Washington, D.C. The company licenses its technology to transportation providers globally, including neighboring cities of Arlington and Fort Worth.
