Newly-Elected CapMetro Board Officers to Host First Meeting

Board Chair Travillion, Vice Chair Kitchen, Secretary Pool

AUSTIN, Texas (February 25, 2022) – The Feb. 28, 2022, CapMetro Board Meeting will mark the first meeting for the agency’s newly-elected officers.

During the January 2022 board meeting, the CapMetro Board of Directors elected Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion as Board Chair, Austin City Council Member Ann Kitchen as Board Vice Chair and Austin City Council Member Leslie Pool as Board Secretary.

“It’s a privilege to be elected as the next CapMetro board chair,” said Board Chair Travillion. “We’ve worked hard as a board to listen and address many of the community’s concerns, and I know there’s more work to be done. Board Member Cooper has been a strong, kind and caring leader, and I’m happy the CapMetro board can still benefit from his leadership.”

Chair Travillion is the second African American to serve as the CapMetro board chair. Wilhelmina Delco was the first, and she served as chair in 1997. Chair Travillion is replacing Wade Cooper, who is completing his seventh year as board chair. As board chair, Cooper oversaw many CapMetro initiatives that championed transit in the region. He will remain on the board and continue to support expanding transit options for Central Texans.

“I’m delighted to now call Jeff our Board Chair,’ said past Board Chair Wade Cooper. “He’s a trusted member of the community, and I know how much he cares about doing work in the public sector. I was honored to serve as CapMetro’s board chair and see all the progress we have made. I look forward to what else the board can accomplish for Central Texas.”

CapMetro Vice Chair Kitchen has been a member of the CapMetro board since 2015, and her priorities include service equity among underserved communities, expanding Pickup service and advocating for an all-electric bus fleet. Board Secretary Pool has been a CapMetro board member since March 2021, and she has advocated for financial transparency and transportation that focuses on the environment and sustainability.

“I appreciate the work the board puts in day in and day out, and I’m excited for the new officer positions,” said CapMetro President and CEO Randy Clarke. “Board Member Cooper has been a wise and valued leader as board chairman. I’m confident that Chairman Travillion, Vice Chair Kitchen and Secretary Pool will accomplish great things in their new positions and be vital advocates for CapMetro, transit, our staff and the community."
