CapMetro to suspend non-emergency services tonight through Feb. 1

The agency will begin conducting its final trips at 7 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31.

AUSTIN, TX (January 31, 2023) — Due to the dangerous weather conditions, CapMetro will begin conducting its final trips at 7 p.m. tonight for Bus, CapMetro Rail, and Pickup, with the intent to have all trips completed around 9 p.m. All non-emergency services will also be suspended tomorrow, February 1. The agency has already suspended operations for Manor Pickup and Lago Vista Pickup, as well as Route 214, Route 990 and MetroBike.

CapMetro has been working closely with our partners at the Austin/Travis County Emergency Operations Center and is aware the inclement weather could result in dangerous, life-threatening road conditions for our frontline staff and customers, so CapMetro is shifting all available resources to provide emergency transportation for our region.

In support of emergency response efforts coordinated from the Emergency Operations Center, the agency intends to supply buses to help transport people to cold weather shelters and fulfill other emergency requests that may be needed. For as long as road conditions allow, CapMetro will also continue providing life-sustaining trips for our MetroAccess customers.

To sustain emergency operations, several CapMetro team members will stay at our facilities for the duration of this winter storm.

Staff will continue to monitor the conditions for Thursday, February 2, and will provide an update on service tomorrow, February 1. To receive up-to-date information on service impacts, please sign up for MetroAlerts.

CapMetro knows the valuable role it plays in the community, but the agency is making a difficult decision to suspend service in order to protect the lives of our staff and customers.
