CapMetro to Resume Most Service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 2nd

The agency will operate Bus, Pickup, CapMetro Access and MetroBike; CapMetro Rail will not operate

AUSTIN, TX ( February 1, 2023) — Following forecasts from the National Weather Service, CapMetro expects conditions to improve tomorrow, February 2, to safely resume limited service, including Bus, Pickup, CapMetro Access and MetroBike, beginning at 10 a.m. with more buses and increased frequency service to begin by noon.

The delayed start allows the agency to assess roadway conditions to ensure the safety of its frontline staff and customers. CapMetro staff are currently performing route reviews, which will continue through tomorrow morning, to assess if any detours need to be made.

Our CapMetro Access team will be contacting customers who have trips scheduled before 10 a.m. tomorrow to determine if appointments can be rescheduled. If they’re unable to reschedule, and if road conditions allow, the agency will continue providing trips to life-sustaining treatments for those customers, including dialysis trips.

CapMetro Rail will not resume operations tomorrow to allow staff to ensure power is restored and all crossings are fully tested and ready for rail service on Friday. CapMetro Express, most Flyer Routes, and Rail Connectors 465 and 466 will also not be operational. Customers who may need other service options are asked to call the Customer Service GO line at 512-474-1200.

Due to school closures in the area and other unforeseen impacts due to the inclement weather, CapMetro is expecting several operator callouts that could delay service and ask the public to be patient.

“Suspending and delaying service is an incredibly difficult decision that we do not make lightly,” said CapMetro President & CEO Dottie Watkins. “It is not lost on me how important and crucial our services are to our community. However, we had to make this decision with safety being the number one factor, for our customers and our staff.”

While the agency does intend to resume a limited-service schedule tomorrow, there are expectations that ice or fallen trees will still be present around Central Texas and at some bus stops, as seen above. We encourage our community to use caution, as we operate only in areas that are safe for our customers and staff.
