CapMetro Reaches Highest Ridership since February 2020

More than 2.2 million trips were taken on CapMetro services in March 2023

AUSTIN, TX (April 25, 2023) — CapMetro’s monthly ridership exceeded 2.2 million customers for the first time since February 2020. In March 2023, 2,204,882 customers used the agency’s services, which is a 25.5% increase from March 2022

“Serving the people in our region is our primary purpose here at CapMetro, and we are thrilled by the large ridership numbers,” said Andrew Skabowski, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for CapMetro. “Our customers trusted us to get them where they needed to go, and we could not reach these milestones without them. We, as an agency, still have a lot of work to do, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Every CapMetro service saw an increase in ridership in March 2023, with Pickup and CapMetro Express seeing the largest increase from March 2022. Pickup saw a 71.4% increase and CapMetro Express saw a 33% increase.
Ridership for the FY2023 (October 2022-September 2023) is also up 24% through the first half of the fiscal year.

CapMetro recently launched phase one of its new Performance dashboard that includes ridership data for all services, excluding Pickup. Pickup data will be added to the new dashboard at a later date, but for now, customers can find that data on this separate Pickup Dashboard. Information and data will be updated monthly.

“We know how important it is to be transparent with our community,” said Patricia Vidaurri, Director of Strategic and Performance Initiatives. “Our ridership statistics have always been available to the public, but the improved dashboards should be much easier to understand. We spent a year working on this project, and I'm proud of how it turned out.”

The new dashboard platform provides a table display option that allows for the visually impaired community to access the dashboards via a screen reader. Future phases will include enhanced details on finances and public safety on CapMetro services.
