CapMetro Service Change Takes Effect January 14: New Pickup Zone, Improved Efficiency and Better Customer Experience
The agency also announces its service schedule in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
AUSTIN, TX —
Several CapMetro service changes are taking effect on January 14, 2024, as part of the agency's triannual adjustment to improve customers’ experience and make the service as efficient as possible.
This includes adding a new Pickup Zone for the Dove Springs neighborhood to connect Southeast Austin residents to other CapMetro services and key destinations within the zone. Starting January 14, customers within the zone can request a ride through the Pickup App, which is available in the Apple and Google stores. If users cannot request through the app, they can book by phone at 512-369-6200.
In addition, the January service change will classify Routes 18, 217 and 335 to 30-minute frequencies, maintaining their current frequencies that have been in place since 2020 – there is no change to the current service.
The service change will officially remove Express Routes 981, 987 and E-bus Routes, which have been suspended since 2020. For a complete list of the service changes being implemented on January 14, visit the dedicated service changes webpage.
Prior to the January Service change, the agency is temporarily suspending CapMetro Rail service beginning January 12 to continue making necessary improvements to the Red Line and continue construction work on the future McKalla Station, which is scheduled to come into service in February. The Red Line will reopen on January 16, after the MLK Jr. Holiday.
On January 12 and 13, the agency will offer a shuttle service (via CapMetro buses) from the Leander, Lakeline and Howard rail stations to the Downtown Station. CapMetro will also offer bus service from all other Rail stations to downtown, though not directly to Downtown Station.
