CapMetro’s Pickup Service Surpasses 2,000 Rides in a Single Day, Marking a New Milestone for the On-Demand Service
The record-breaking achievement follows the successful launch of the Dove Springs Pickup zone in January 2024
Austin, TX—CapMetro’s Pickup service achieved a significant milestone, exceeding 2,000 riders in a single day across all 11 neighborhood zones. The achievement follows the successful launch of the newest zone for Southeast Austin—Dove Springs—in January.
The new high ridership reached its peak on February 22, 2024, with 2,001 riders across all combined zones. In addition, Dove Springs, a new Project Connect-funded zone, continues gaining momentum, with a daily peak ridership of 96 customers on February 23, 2024.
"I’m thrilled to see the positive impact our services are having on our region," said Dottie Watkins, President & CEO at CapMetro. "This milestone reflects the need for more diverse transit options and the ongoing commitment of our staff to keeping these communities moving."
CapMetro's Pickup service aims to enhance mobility options for customers by offering on-demand rides within designated zones, providing a seamless and flexible transportation experience. Each of CapMetro’s 11 zones is designed to fit the needs of the specific neighborhoods they serve.
Pickup has quickly gained popularity since its debut, offering passengers a convenient, low-cost service to complement the agency’s traditional fixed-route bus service. At $1.25 per trip, which is the same fare as bus, customers can access schools, grocery stores, doctors' offices, connections to our larger transit network, and other locations within the zones. The daily rider average across all zones is 182 riders with an average Customer Satisfaction rating of 4.87 out of 5 for the month of January.
Customers may use the user-friendly Pickup app to request a ride, track their vehicle in real-time and receive estimated arrival times, making it easier than ever to navigate the city. If customers cannot download the app to their phone, they can book a trip through 512-369-6200.
