CapMetro celebrates newest Pickup Zone in Northeast Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – CapMetro officially launched its 12th Pickup Zone in Northeast Austin, providing customers greater access to public transportation options. The agency celebrated this latest zone, a Project Connect initiative, in partnership with Travis County and community leaders.

“This is a great day for Northeast Travis County,” said Travis County Commissioner and CapMetro Board Chair Jeff Travillion. “The ability to access public transit is critical for a thriving community, and I am proud to celebrate the launch of Decker Pickup to continue to support residents in their ability to seamlessly travel within the community.”

Pickup Decker offers a door-to-door on-demand transit option for $1.25 that connects customers to the agency’s larger transit network and other key destinations within the zone. This includes destinations like the Travis County Expo Center, University Hills Austin Public Library, Community First! Village, and H-E-B. It will also provide connectivity to the future Rapid 837 Expo Center line, as well as bus routes 20, 233, 237, and 339.

“As part of our Transit Development Plan, Travis County is dedicated to providing ongoing enhancements to improve access, efficiency, and effectiveness to our transportation services,” said Travis County Judge Andy Brown. “Expanding CapMetro’s Pickup program to this underserved area is an important milestone, and we’re excited to be able to offer this service to Northeast Travis County.”

Pickup Decker officially launched with the 2025 Spring Service Change on January 13. Since the start of the zone, the zone has seen strong ridership with over 150 rides, making Pickup Decker our most successful zone start to date.

This new zone is the fourth that’s launched as part of Project Connect, a voter-approved initiative to invest and expand Central Texas’ public transportation network, and the second zone launched in partnership with Travis County, who provided a quarter of the funding to deliver the zone.

“Our Pickup program represents CapMetro’s commitment to innovative, accessible transportation,” said Dottie Watkins, President & CEO of CapMetro. “This neighborhood microtransit service will connect residents to our broader transit network, providing critical connections to build a more equitable transit system.”

In 2024, CapMetro Pickup celebrated milestones, including the Dove Springs zone launch, a single-day high ridership record, and the one-millionth recorded ride for the service. To date, CapMetro Pickup continues to see strong ridership levels with over 4,000 rides provided each month and a total of 500,000 rides recorded in 2024.

To book a ride with Pickup, customers can request a ride through the Pickup App, which is available in the Apple and Google stores. If users cannot request through the app, they have the option to book by phone at 512-369-6200. Each ride costs $1.25, the same as the agency’s bus fare, and kids ride free.
