CapMetro to Provide Safe, Convenient Service on July 4th 2019
Agency will offer free rides after 5 p.m. on Independence Day
AUSTIN, Texas - CapMetro is encouraging people to take public transit this Independence Day to avoid the hassle and cost of congestion and parking at the Austin Symphony H-E-B July 4th Concert & Fireworks at Auditorium Shores. The agency is offering free rides after 5 p.m. for all of its services.
The agency will operate Saturday-level bus service for the holiday, with MetroRapid Routes 801 and 803 running until 2:30 a.m. MetroRail will not operate due to its summer service disruption. MetroExpress Routes 980 and 985 will run from 4 p.m. until midnight to supplement the disrupted MetroRail service.
For riders returning home after the end of the fireworks show, CapMetro advises those going north of Lady Bird Lake to walk across the South 1st Street Bridge, which will be closed to vehicular traffic, and head to bus stops located at Lavaca and 4th Streets. Southbound riders can board their return buses at a few stops:
- Near the corner of South Congress and Barton Springs or on Riverside near South Congress for routes traveling down South Congress or east of I-35.
- Along Barton Springs Road between South 1st and Riverside for riders traveling southwest (on South 1st or Lamar, for instance).
Bus detours will be in effect between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. the evening of July 4. Riders can get real-time information by downloading the free CapMetro App, using the Trip Planner, visiting the CapMetro website or by calling the customer service GO Line at 512-474-1200.
Routes that will be on detour that evening are:
- 1 N. Lamar/S. Congress
- 3 Burnet/ Manchaca
- 7 Duval/Dove Springs
- 10 S.1st/Red River
- 17 Cesar Chavez
- 20 Manor Road/Riverside

On July 4, all MetroAccess subscription trips will be automatically canceled. MetroAccess customers needing to keep their subscription trips on July 4 should call 512-852-7272 to reschedule them.
CapMetro administrative offices and the Transit Store will be closed July 4; however, the GO Line will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and customers will have access to the automated 24-hour phone line.
Service will return to its regular weekday schedule on Friday, July 5.
